How are durable labeling solutions for industries such as industrial manufacturing, medical technology, and automotive created? The answer often lies in the details—more precisely, in adhesive technology. In March 2026, four employees from robos-labels attended a training session at material manufacturer 3M in Neuss to experience these fundamentals and innovations firsthand.
The focus was on topics such as adhesion and cohesion, modern surface preparation, and innovative adhesive systems like Engineered Adhesives, Thin Bonding, and Structural Adhesives. Especially in times of increasing quality requirements, growing sustainability discussions, and global supply chain challenges, expertise in industrial bonding solutions is becoming increasingly important.
The training provided not only solid technical knowledge but also practical insights into the world of modern high-performance adhesives—demonstrating once again how essential continuous learning is for future-proof labeling solutions.

Knowledge that connects: Adhesive technology as a key enabling technology

Whether in industrial manufacturing, medical technology, or the automotive sector—modern labeling solutions must withstand extreme conditions. This is where adhesive technology plays a crucial role. During the 3M training, our employees gained in-depth insights into the fundamentals of adhesion and cohesion, as well as the importance of proper surface preparation. Even the highest-quality labeling materials only perform at their best when applied to perfectly prepared substrates.
A particularly exciting aspect was the variety of modern adhesive systems. Engineered Adhesives enable customized solutions for specific applications—an essential factor in an era of highly individual customer requirements and increasing product complexity.

Hands-on and innovative: From Thin Bonding to Structural Adhesives

In addition to theory, the training strongly focused on practical application. In the lab, our colleagues were able to test, bond, cut, and analyze materials themselves. Thin Bonding demonstrated how ultra-thin adhesive layers create precise and nearly invisible bonds—ideal for high-quality labels.
In contrast, Thick Bonding or Structural Adhesives showed how high-performance adhesives can even take on structural functions. These technologies are becoming increasingly important, particularly in the context of lightweight design trends and sustainable production, as they can replace traditional mechanical fasteners.

Team spirit and behind-the-scenes insights

Alongside the technical content, team exchange was equally valuable. Interaction among colleagues and with 3M experts made the training a thoroughly enriching experience. A special highlight was the insight into 3M’s research and development facilities, showcasing how innovation is brought to life in practice.
Such training programs are an integral part of our corporate philosophy at robos-labels: we invest in knowledge to ensure we continue delivering reliable, innovative, and sustainable labeling solutions to our customers in the future.
